What the UH-1 Changes
The UH-1 is not a stripped-down MH-1. It is a different approach to the same problem. LLI designed the UH-1 from the ground up as a cost-effective binocular platform that does not sacrifice the features users need most.
Section 1 — Overview
The UH-1 is not a stripped-down MH-1. It is a different approach to the same problem. LLI designed the UH-1 from the ground up as a cost-effective binocular platform that does not sacrifice the features users need most.
| Category | Detail |
|---|---|
| What the UH-1 keeps | Manual gain control, dual-power IR illumination, rotational pod shutoff, IPD stops, onboard and external power, articulating hinge. |
| What the UH-1 changes | Polymer housing with metal bridge backer (vs. machined magnesium/titanium). AA battery with external power support. |
Section 2 — Build
The UH-1 uses a lightweight polymer housing reinforced with a rigid metal bridge backer at the hinge assembly. The compartmentalized module architecture simplifies both initial assembly and field repair. If a component takes damage, the modular design allows targeted replacement rather than full housing swap. The interlocking hinge mechanism provides enhanced articulation durability.
The UH-1 housing weighs 166g (5.86 oz) bare. With standard mil-spec optics installed, the complete system weighs 577g (20.35 oz). The UH-1 is designed to meet submersion requirements to 66 feet for 2 hours and is designed to exceed MIL-STD-810G environmental testing standards.
Section 3 — Features
The UH-1 uses a 4-pin plug-in manual gain control system compatible with both 3-pin and EGAC tube configurations. This is broader tube compatibility than the MH-1 offers. No soldering. No tube warranty concerns.
The UH-1 runs on AA batteries, the most widely available battery format on the planet. Available in alkaline, lithium, NiMH rechargeable, and lithium-ion rechargeable chemistries. Delivers 25 to 90 hours depending on configuration. External power is also supported via a dedicated port for sustained operations.
Section 4 — Limitations
No split-to-mono capability. The UH-1 is a binocular and stays a binocular. No color options. Black only. No panning arm compatibility. LLPA is MH-1 only. Polymer construction does not offer the same material toughness as machined magnesium and titanium.

Section 6 — Fit
Budget-conscious binocular buyers who want the core feature set without the flagship price. The $500 savings puts more budget toward better image tubes. International users who benefit from AA battery commonality. Operators who do not need split-to-mono. Departments and teams purchasing in volume where per-unit savings add up across the buy.
Section 7 — Purchase
Housing-only purchases start at $1,499. Complete builds are available from LLI's authorized distributor network including Custom Night Vision, GPNVGs, Nightfall Optics, Aurora Tactical Group, and MK4 Design. Every UH-1 is built to order with a typical lead time of 2 to 3 weeks.
