What the MH-14 Is

The MH-14 is a standalone monocular night vision housing that doubles as the entry point into the entire Low Light Innovations product ecosystem. It is not a stripped-down compromise product. It is a full-featured monocular built from magnesium alloy and 7075 T6 aluminum, with manual gain control, dual IR illuminators, and a single AA battery that delivers 50+ hours of runtime.

At $499 for the housing only, the MH-14 is the most affordable way to enter the LLI system. The housing weighs 113g bare. In its lightest fully built configuration with RPO lightweight optics, a complete MH-14 monocular comes in at approximately 8.6 oz. With standard mil-spec optics, that rises to 10.3 oz.

Section 1 — Build

Construction

The MH-14 is machined from magnesium alloy with 7075 T6 aluminum structural components. This is the same grade of aluminum used in aircraft wing spars and landing gear components. The MH-14 is designed to meet MIL-STD-810G environmental testing standards and IP-68 ingress protection specifications. It passes the NATO 1.5-meter drop test.

Section 2 — Features

Key Features

Manual Gain Control

Compatible with 11769 and 3-pad tube configurations. A single PVS-14 style rotary knob controls power on/off, gain adjustment, and IR illumination selection. All primary functions under one dial simplifies operation under stress and in low-visibility conditions.

Dual IR Illuminators

Low-power illumination for close-range tasks (map reading, equipment checks, first aid) and high-power spot illumination for extended-range target identification, navigation, and area observation.

Single AA Battery Power

The MH-14 runs on a single AA battery and delivers 50+ hours of continuous operation. AA batteries are available anywhere on the planet. Gas stations, grocery stores, hardware stores, international markets. You are never stranded waiting for a specific battery chemistry.

Full Compatibility

Fully compatible with all standard PVS-14 J-arm mounting systems and the complete PVS-14 aftermarket ecosystem. Accepts the same PVS-14 style optics used in the MH-1 and UH-1, meaning your optics carry over directly when you upgrade to binocular.

Section 3 — Upgrade Path

The Ecosystem Upgrade Path

StepDescription
Step 1Start with one MH-14 monocular. Full standalone capability with manual gain, dual IR, and AA power.
Step 2Add a second MH-14 with a matched tube. Two independent monoculars, or ready for bridge integration.
Step 3Add an MH-1 bridge. Your two MH-14 pods connect into a full articulating binocular system. Nothing wasted. Nothing replaced. Everything carries forward.

This process works in both directions. An MH-1 binocular can be split back into two independent monoculars using MH-14 monocular adapters. The system reconfigures to your requirements.
